Electronic Telegram No. 4049 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Pina, W. Zheng, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova in IC 4221 on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2015 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2015C Jan. 7.604 13 18 30.47 -14 36 44.6 16.4 1".6 E, 12".5 S The object was detected again on Jan. 11.54 UT at similar magnitude (16.4). A finding chart has been posted by the discoverers at the following website URL: http://astro.berkeley.edu/~zwk/findingchart/PSN_J13183047-14364457.jpg. The variable was designated PSN J13183047-1436446 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2015C based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. The type-Ia supernova 2002bs (cf. IAUC 7861) also appeared in IC 4221. J. M. Silverman, University of Texas at Austin; G. Hosseinzadeh, Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope (LCOGT); J. C. Wheeler and G. H. Marion, University of Texas at Austin; S. Valenti, I. Arcavi, D. A. Howell, and C. McCully, LCOGT; and J. Vinko, University of Szeged, report that a spectrogram (range 320-1000 nm), obtained on Jan. 15.54 UT with the robotic FLOYDS instrument mounted on the Faulkes Telescope North, shows that PSN J13183047-1436446 = SN 2015C is a type-II supernova. Correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2015C is a normal type-IIP supernova at 1-2 months after explosion. After removal of the host-galaxy recession velocity of 2889 km/s (Catinella et al. 2005, A.J. 130, 1037), the absorption minimum of the H-alpha line is found to be blueshifted by about 5900 km/s.
