Electronic Telegram No. 3447 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams, California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; and S. M. Larson and E. Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, report the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey discovery of a supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images: SN 2013 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. 2013as Mar. 15.32 11 52 52.34 -18 59 19.9 18.1 Nothing is visible at this position on a CSS image from Jan. 13.48 UT (limiting mag 19.0). A confirming spectrogram (range 350-800 nm) was taken with the Palomar 5-m reflector (+ DBSP) on Mar. 15.38; comparison of the spectrum of 2013as with a library of spectra using the SNID software package (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) matches the spectrum of the type-Ia supernova 2002er near maximum light with redshift z = 0.07. F. Taddia, Oskar Klein Centre, Stockholm University; and M. Stritzinger, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that they obtained a visual-wavelength spectrogram of 2013as with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ Alfosc). Close inspection of the spectrum reveals this to be a normal type-Ia supernova around maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of template spectra using SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2013as is at a z = 0.07 and closely resembles SN 2004fu at 3 days after maximum light.
