Electronic Telegram No. 3395 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2013O = PSN J08520598+5236062 Tianmeng Zhang and Xu Zhou, National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC); and Juncheng Chen and Xiaofeng Wang, Tsinghua University (THU), China, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.3) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Jan. 21.70 UT using the 0.6-m NAOC Schmidt telescope in the course of the THU-NAOC Transient Survey (TNTS). The new object is located at R.A. = 8h52m05s.98, Decl. = +52d36'06".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 3" north of the center of the galaxy 2MASX J07352516+5152330. Nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey image from the Palomar Sky Survey. The TNTS image has been posted at the following website URL: http://www.thca.tsinghua.edu.cn/~wangxf/TNTS/PSNJ08520598+5236062.png. The variable was designated PSN J08520598+5236062 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2013O based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional approximate CCD magnitudes for 2013O: Jan. 3, [20.0 (TNTS); 23.401, 17.2 (Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia; remotely with a 51-cm RCOS telescope + luminance filter at the New Mexico Skies Observatory near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A.; position end figures 06s.01, 05".0). Brimacombe's image is posted at the following website URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/8410253794/. Jujia Zhang and Changjun Wang, Yunnan Astronomical Observatory (YNAO); Xulin Zhao and Xiaofeng Wang, Tsinghua University; and Tianmeng Zhang, National Astronomical Observatories of China, report on an optical spectrogram (range 340-830 nm) of PSN J08520598+5236062 = SN 2013O that was obtained on Jan. 22.88 UT with the 2.4-m telescope (+ YFOSC) at the LiJiang Gaomeigu Station of the YNAO. The spectrum is consistent with a type-Ia supernova around maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2013O matches with SN 1992A at -1 day. Adopting a redshift of 0.053 (from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey; viewable at website URL http://www.sdss.org/dr2/products/spectra/getspectra.html) for the presumed host galaxy (SDSS J085205.98+523602.5), they measure the velocity of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption feature to be about 12700 km/s.
