Yusa, Osaki, Japan, reports the discovery by M. Koishikawa (Sendai Astronomical Observatory) of an apparent supernova (mag 17.2) on a CCD frame (limiting magnitude 19) taken on Dec. 20.612 UT using a 1.3-m reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 4h42m41s.14, Decl. = +18d34'59".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 19" due west of the center of a nearby galaxy. Nothing is visible at this location on a red Digitized Sky Survey image from 1991 Oct. 11 (limiting mag 19.0). The discovery image has been posted at website URL http://space.geocities.jp/yusastar77/supernova/PSNinLEDA213292_121220.htm. The variable was designated PSN J04424114+1834597 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012id based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional CCD magnitudes for 2012id: Dec. 20.782, V = 16.3 (S. Kiyota, Tsukuba, Japan; taken remotely with a 0.32-m f/8 astrograph + STL-6303E camera near Nerpio, Spain; image posted at URL http://meineko.sakura.ne.jp/ccd/PSN_J04424114+1834597-121220.jpg); 21.069, 16.5 (L. Elenin, Lyubertsy, Russia; and I. Molotov, Moscow; remotely taken with a 0.45-m f/2.8 telescope at the ISON-NM Observatory near Mayhill, NM, USA; position end figures 41s.11 +/- 0".09, 59".9 +/- 0".08; UCAC-4 reference stars; limiting mag about 19.5); 21.094, 16.3 (R. A. Koff, Bennett, CO, USA; Meade 0.25-m f/10 reflector + Apogee U-47 camera; limiting magnitude 18.6; position end figures 41s.10, 59".5; UCAC3 reference stars; image posted at URL http://antelopehillsobservatory.org/SNpictures/PSNJ04424114+1834597final.jpg); 21.410, 16.4 (Yusa; remotely using a 0.25-m f/3.4 astrograph at the iTelescope observatory near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A.; position end figures 41s.12, 59".8; USNO-B1.0 reference stars; limiting mag 18.5; image posted at website URL http://space.geocities.jp/yusastar77/supernova/PSNinLEDA213292_121221.htm); 22.520, 16.6 (Toshihide Noguchi, Katori, Chiba-ken, Japan; 0.23-m f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector; position end figures 41s.16, 35'00".0; offset 18".5 west, 0".1 north; limiting mag 18.0; UCAC3 reference stars; image posted at URL http://park8.wakwak.com/~ngc/images/PSNinLEDA213292.jpg; communicated by S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan); 22.712, 16.3 (Koichi Nishiyama, Kurume, Japan; and Fujio Kabashima, Miyaki, Japan; Meade 200R 0.4-m f/9.8 reflector + SBIG STL1001E camera; position end figures 41s.12, 35'00"0; limiting mag 19.2; communicated by Yusa); 22.733, V = 16.9 (Koishikawa; limiting mag 18.5; communicated by Yusa); 24.512, V = 16.8 (Koishikawa; communicated by Yusa). L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, A. Pastorello, and M. Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm), obtained on Dec. 22.98 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC), shows that PSN J04424114+1834597 = SN 2012id is a type-Ia supernova at redshift z about 0.012. The best match was found with various type-Ia supernovae a few days before maximum light. The expansion velocity, as deduced from the position of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption, is about 10500 km/s. The Asiago classification spectra are posted at website URL http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classification was made via GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024).
