Ciabattari and E. Mazzoni, Borgo a Mozzano, Italy, report their discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.8) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19) obtained on Sept. 9.12 and 10.16 UT with a 0.5-m Newtonian telescope in the course of the Italian Supernovae Search Project. The new object is located at R.A. = 4h07m25s.28, Decl. = +1d45'33".3 (equinox 2000.0; astrometry with respect to UCAC-2 stars), which is 24" west and 7" south of the center of the galaxy PGC 14498 = MCG +00-11-12. The variable was designated PSN J04072528+0145333 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012en based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, A. Pastorello, M. Turatto, and S. Valenti, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that a spectrogram of PSN J04072528+0145333 = SN 2012en, obtained on Sept. 11.13 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range 350-820 nm, resolution 1.3nm), indicates that it is a type-Ia supernova. Adopting for the host galaxy (PGC 14498) a redshift z = 0.017295 (Saunders et al. 2000, MNRAS 317, 55; via NED), comparison with a library of supernova spectra via GELATO (Harutyuyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) indicates that 2012en is a type-Ia event around one month after maximum light. F. Taddia, Stockholm University, reports on optical spectroscopy of PSN J04072528+0145333 = SN 2012en, obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC; range 350-900 nm, resolution 0.8 nm) on Sept. 11.15 UT. The fully reduced spectrum, cross-correlated with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), shows 2012en to be a type-Ia supernova at 40 days after maximum light.
