Electronic Telegram No. 3191 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams, California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; and S. M. Larson and E. Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images: SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2012dv July 18.41 21 48 30.29 -12 50 21.3 18.2 0".5 E, 1".6 N Further CSS magnitudes for 2012dv: May 28.45 UT, [19.4; June 18.40, 18.4. J. M. Silverman and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a low-signal-to-noise-ratio CCD spectrum (range 340-1000 nm), obtained on July 23 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2012dv is a type-Ia supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of SN spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2012dv is a normal type-Ia supernova approximately one month past maximum brightness.
