J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, and R. Williams, California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; E. C. Beshore and S. M. Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen, Gemini Observatory, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images: SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. 2012br Mar. 28.31 12 24 17.02 +18 55 29.3 17.8 Further CSS magnitudes for 2012br: Mar. 2.33 UT, [19.8; Mar. 22.29, 18.0. L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, A. Pastorello, P. Ochner, M. Turatto, and S. Valenti, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that a spectrum (range 360-810 nm; resolution 2.3 nm) of 2012br was obtained on Apr. 1.06 UT with the Ekar-Copernico 1.82-m telescope (+ AFOSC). The spectrum shows that 2012br is a type-II supernova with strong Balmer lines -- in particular, a broad H_alpha emission with FWHM corresponding to about 11000 km/s. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) returns a best fit with the type-IIP supernova 2004et soon after explosion and a redshift z = 0.019.
