J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams, California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; E. C. Beshore and S. M. Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen, Gemini Observatory, report the discovery of a supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images: SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2012bf Feb. 10.43 15 13 41.81 +16 06 06.6 18.5 0".9 E Further CSS magnitudes for 2012bf: Jan. 20.50 UT, [21.4; Feb. 23.53, 18.2; Mar. 2.44, 18.6; Mar. 15.51, 19.2. A spectrogram (range 380-1000 nm) of 2012bf was taken on Feb. 29 UT with the Keck-I telescope (+ LRIS); cross- correlation with a library of spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows 2012bf to best match the type-Ia supernova 2004eo at two days past maximum light. The redshift based on the SNIDs matches is approximately z = 0.07. L. Magill, D. Wright, and R. Kotak, Queen's University, Belfast, report that optical spectroscopy (range 360-1000 nm) of 2012bf was obtained at the Isaac Newton Telescope (+ IDS) by H. Ledo on Mar. 15.21 UT and was cross- correlated with a library of supernova spectra using the SNID software, showing 2012bf to be a type-Ia supernova. The best fit was with the normal type-Ia supernova 2004eo (Mazzali et al. 2008, MNRAS 386, 1897) at an epoch of 12-14 days. Fitting with SNID yielded a redshift of 0.07.
