Electronic Telegram No. 4289 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network COMET P/2016 N2 = P/2008 T1 (BOATTINI) R. Weryk, Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawaii, has reported the discovery of a possible comet in four w-band exposures taken with the 1.8-m Pan-STARRS1 telescope at Haleakala on July 4 UT (discovery observations tabulated below), noting that the object appears slightly larger than images of nearby stars (FWHM approximately 1".4, vs. 1".2), with no clear evidence of a tail, in stacked images. 2016 UT R.A. IAUC 8988). Three 60-s follow-up CCD w-band exposures were acquired by R. J. Wainscoat and C. Wipper with the 3.6-m Canada-France- Hawaii Telescope (measured by M. Micheli and Wainscoat) on July 5.48 UT, which showed a coma with FWHM about 0".9 in 0".7 seeing with a possible faint very-low-surface-brightness tail to the west. After the object was posted to the MPC's NEOCP and PCCP webpages, A. C. Gilmore and P. M. Kilmartin obtained CCD images with the Mount John 1.0-m f/7.7 reflector that yielded total magnitude 19.3-19.8 on July 5.6. Williams has confirmed the identity of P/2016 N2 with P/2008 T1. The indicated correction to the prediction by Williams on MPEC 2013-C52 is Delta(T) = +0.29 day. The indicated correction to the prediction by S. Nakano in the ICQ's 2015 Comet Handbook is +0.22 day. The following linked orbital elements by Williams (from 226 observations spanning 2006 May 25-2016 July 5; mean residual 0".7) and an ephemeris appear on MPEC 2016-N27.
