Electronic Telegram No. 4218 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2015be IN NGC 1843 = PSN J05140624-1037300 Further to CBET 4190, S. Stegman, W. Zheng, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova in NGC 1843 on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2015 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2015be Dec. 6.399 5 14 06.24 -10 37 30.0 18.0 1".3 E, 6".5 N The discoverers have posted a finding chart for the variable at website URL http://w.astro.berkeley.edu/~zwk/findingchart/PSN_J05140624-10373000.jpg. The variable was designated PSN J05140624-1037300 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2015be based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional approximate unfiltered CCD magnitudes for 2015be: Dec. 2 UT, [18.2 (KAIT); 7.648, 17.7 (K. Shima, Fujimi-machi, Nagano, Japan; 45-cm f/4.6 reflector + FLI ML-8300 camera; 60-s exposure; position end figures 06s.18, 29".9). W. Zheng, I. Shivvers, H. Yuk, and V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that a CCD spectrogram (range 350-1000 nm) of PSN J05140624-1037300 = SN 2015be was obtained on Dec. 9.345 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory. The spectrum shows that 2015be is a type-IIP supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates a similarity with several type-IIP supernovae several days after explosion. The redshift, derived from the narrow H_alpha emission line (which is likely contributed from the host glaxy), is z = 0.0087, consistent with the redshift of the putative host galaxy, NGC 1843, with z = 0.00868 as given in NED (Koribalski et al., 2004, A.J. 128, 16).
