Ross, W. Zheng, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova in IC 1776 in unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2015 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2015ap Sept. 8.469 2 05 13.32 + 6 06 08.4 17.3 28".7 W, 16".4 S A finding chart was posted by the discoverers at the following website URL: http://w.astro.berkeley.edu/~zwk/findingchart/PSN_J02051332+06060842.jpg. The variable was designated PSN J02051332+0606084 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2015ap based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional approximate red CCD magnitudes for 2015ap: Sept. 7.47 UT, 18.0 (KAIT); 9.47, 17.0 (KAIT); 11.906, 16.0 (G. Masi; remotely using a 43-cm telescope at Ceccano, Italy; position end figures 13s.30, 08".5. L. Tartaglia, N. Elias-Rosa, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, L. Tomasella, P. Ochner, A. Pastorello, G. Terreran, and M. Turatto, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that an optical spectrogram (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.4 nm) of PSN J02051332+0606084 = SN 2015ap, obtained on Sept. 11.04 UT with the Asiago 182-cm Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC) in the framework of the Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, A.N. 335, 841), shows that this a type-Ib/c supernova. Adopting for the host galaxy (IC 1776) a redshift z = 0.01138 from Chengalur et al. (1993, Ap.J. 419, 30; via NED), the spectrum is similar to those of several broad-line type-Ib/c supernovae before or close to maximum. Classifications were done with GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024). The Asiago classification spectra are posted at website URL http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it. I. Shivvers, H. Yuk, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, write that PSN J02051332+0606084 = SN 2015ap is a normal type-Ib supernova. The object was reported by Tartaglia et al. (above) as a type-Ib/c supernova based on a very young spectrum showing a similarity to the spectra of young broad-lined type-Ib/c supernovae. Based upon a spectrum (range 330-1000 nm) obtained on Sept. 21 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, this object has evolved into a normal type-Ib supernova. The "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) identifies strong correlations with SNe 1997X, 2007C, and 1998dt around maximum brightness.
