Electronic Telegram No. 4186 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network NOVA IN IC 1613 = PNV J01044358+0203419 Further to CBET 4124, G. Halevi, W. Zheng, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at Berkeley, report the LOSS discovery of a possible nova (mag 17.5) in IC 1613 in unfiltered KAIT images taken on Sept. 10.48 UT. The variable is located at R.A. = 1h04m43s.58, Decl. = +2d03'41".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 63".4 west and 202".2 south of the center of IC 1613. Nothing was visible at this position on an unfiltered KAIT image taken Sept. 9 (limiting mag about 18.0). A finding chart was posted at website URL http://w.astro.berkeley.edu/~zwk/findingchart/PNV_J01044358+02034187.jpg. The variable was designated PNV J01044358+0203419 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage. Zheng and Filippenko add that a CCD spectrogram (range 350-1000 nm) of PNV J01044358+0203419 was obtained on Sept. 11.478 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory. The spectrum shows a blue continuum, along with strong Balmer emission lines including H-alpha and H-beta, confirming that the object is an extragalactic nova.
