Sullivan, University of Southampton; and A. Papadopoulos, C. B. D'Andrea, and R. C. Nichol, Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, Portsmouth, on behalf of the Dark Energy Survey (DES; Flaugher et al. 2005, Int. J. Mod. Phys. A 30, 3121), report the discovery of a supernova (r magnitude about 22.9, AB system) on g-, r-, i-, and z-band CCD images (limiting r mag 24.5) taken on 2013 Aug. 30 UT with the 4-m Blanco telescope (+ DECam) at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in the course of the DES Supernova Survey (Bernstein et al. 2012, Ap.J. 753, 152). The variable is located at R.A. = 2h42m32s.82, Decl. = -1d21'30".1 (equinox 2000.0). The object was not detected during DES search operations during Nov./Dec. 2012 (limiting r magnitude 24.5). Optical spectroscopy (range 595-940 nm), obtained on 2013 Nov. 21 UT with the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (+ FORS2), showed that the variable was a hydrogen-free superluminous supernova of type I or Ic at redshift z = 0.663. The classification was made via SUPERFIT (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1180).
