The new object is located at R.A. = 15h15m17s.21, Decl. = +75d29'09".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 18".3 east and 2".9 north of the center of the galaxy 2MASX J15151575+7529066. Nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey image (Palomar Sky Survey cited). The variable was designated PSN J15151721+7529095 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2014M based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional CCD magnitudes for 2014M: Jan. 12.67, [17.5 (Ma et al.); 25.77, 17.1 (Ma et al.); 28.805, 16.3 (Gianluca Masi, Francesca Nocentini, and Patrick Schmeer; remotely using a 43-cm telescope near Ceccano, Italy; position end figures 17s.15, 09".9). H.-N. Sai, W.-X. Li, and X.-F. Wang, Tsinghua University; and T.-M. Zhang, National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC), report on an optical spectrogram (range 350-890 nm) of PSN J15151721+7529095 = SN 2014M that was obtained on Jan. 27.90 UT with the 2.16-m telescope (+ BFOSC) at the Xinglong Station of NAOC. The spectrum is consistent with that of a type-Ia supernova a few days after maximum; cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that it matches with SN 1994ae at +9 days. The host galaxy (2MASX J15151575+7529066) seems to have a redshift of 0.0222 from the narrow emission line; adopting this redshift for the host galaxy, they measure a velocity of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption feature to be about 11500 km/s.
