H. McNaught reports his discovery of a comet on CCD images obtained with the 0.5-m Uppsala Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring (discovery observations tabulated below), the object showing a circular coma of diameter 0'.3 with moderate condensation; an image taken two nights later in poor seeing showed a similar appearance with total magnitude 16.8. After posting on the Minor Planet Center's NEOCP webpage, H. Sato (Tokyo, Japan) obtained images remotely with a 0.51-m f/6.8 astrograph located at the iTelescope Observatory at Siding Spring on Mar. 31.77 UT that show a faint coma 15" in diameter with a 40" tail toward p.a. 250 degree in six stacked 60-s exposure; the total V-band magnitude, as measured within a circular aperture of radius 8".2, was 17.3. 2013 UT R.A.
