Chen, R. Kotak, and M. Fraser, Queen's University, Belfast, report that a spectrogram (range 330-975 nm; resolution about 1000) of SN 2012gl (cf. CBET 3302) was obtained on Nov. 22.21 UT with the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope (+ ISIS). Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that SN 2012gl is an old type-Ia supernova, between two and three months after maximum, in NGC 3153 (z = 0.009). The spectrum of 2012gl best matches those of several normal type-Ia supernovae such as SN 2007co and SN 1991M.
