Ofek, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, reports the discovery of a supernova (mag about 20.2) on two r-band CCD images (limiting mag 20.9) taken on 2010 Aug. 20.2 UT with the 1.2-m Oschin telescope at Palomar Observatory in the course of the "Palomar Transient Factory" survey. The new object is located at R.A. = 17h21m30s.68, Decl. = +48d07'47.4 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 2" east of the nucleus of the presumed host galaxy. The object was not detected in a deep reference image of this field obtained in 2009 (limiting magnitude 22). D. A. Howell and D. Murray report that optical spectroscopy (range 350-1000 nm), obtained on 2010 Aug. 26 UT with the Gemini-North telescope (+ GMOS) showed that 2010mc was a type-IIn supernova at redshift z = 0.035. The Gemini-North classification spectrum is posted at the following website URL: http://www.weizmann.ac.il/astrophysics/wiserep/; classification was made via SUPERFIT (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1180).
