Electronic Telegram No. 3203 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Takaki, Y. Moritani, R. Itoh, I. Ueno, T. Urano, and K. S. Kawabata, Hiroshima University; and M. Yamanaka, Kyoto University, obtained a low-resolution optical spectrogram (range 450-900 nm) of PSN J02455988-0734270 = SN 2012ec (cf. CBET 3201) on Aug. 17.7 UT with the 1.5-m Kanata telescope at Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory. The spectrum shows broad P-Cyg profiles of Balmer series and He I 587.6-nm lines, suggesting that 2012ec is a type-II supernova at early phase. The spectrum is similar to spectra of SN 2006bp at 10-12 days (Quimby et al. 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1093).
