Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images: SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2012dr June 18.25 13 33 49.61 +26 08 07.0 18.7 1".1 E, 23".5 N Additional CSS magnitudes for 2012dr: May 22.30 UT, [20.5; June 10.21, 19.4. L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, P. Ochner, A. Pastorello, M. Turatto, and S. Valenti, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that a spectrogram of 2012dr, obtained on July 17.87 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range 340-820 nm; resolution 2.4 nm), suggests that it is a normal type-Ia supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2012dr has a redshift of about 0.071 and is similar to several normal type-Ia supernovae at about one month after the light-curve maximum.
