Fraser, R. Kotak, D. Wright, K. Smith, S. J. Smartt, L. Magill, and M. McCrum, Queen's University, Belfast, report that an optical spectrogram of PSN J13110904-2800331 = SN 2012dh (cf. CBET 3163) was obtained by J. Jensen-Hansen with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC + Grism#4; coverage 320-910 nm; resolution about 1.4 nm) on July 7, showing it to be a young type-IIP supernova discovered soon after explosion. The spectrum consists of a blue continuum, with Balmer series P-Cyg features, and a strong P-Cyg He I line at 587.6 nm. The SuperNova IDentification code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) finds a good match to several type-II supernovae at the redshift of ESO 443-80 (z = 0.007), with a best match to SN 2005ay at +1 day.
